The Curse of La Llorona (2019)
In 1673 Mexico, a couple are playing with their children in a field, as the youngest of their sons gives his mother a necklace, which she warmly accepts. The boy closes his eyes briefly, and when he opens them, his family is missing. While looking for his parents, the boy sees his mother drowning his brother in a stream. The boy runs in horror but his mother chases and catches him and apparently drowns him too.
In 1973 Los Angeles, 300 years later, Mexican born American social worker Anna Tate-Garcia investigates the disappearance of two children belonging to a client named Patricia Alvarez. Anna turns up at the house with a police officer and demands to check the well-being of the children. Once inside, Garcia searches the house but is advised to stay quiet and not to open the door where her children are located. When Anna knocks on the door, Patricia attacks her before she is then taken away by the police. Anna obtains the key to the locked door and opens it to find Patricia’s two sons. The two boys, Carlos and Tomas, tell Anna to keep them in the room so they are protected. Ignoring the warnings and saying that everything will be all right, Anna takes the boys to the police for safety.
